The workflow on Haltech
Log
Record a pull or cruise with the right channels.
Export
CSV from NSP, all channels.
Analyse
The agent finds issues, with evidence.
You decide
Apply small changes to a map copy, re-log.
The full method is in reading datalogs with AI. This page covers what's specific to Haltech.
Logging on Haltech
Many Elite and Nexus models can log internally, so you can drive without a laptop and pull the log off afterwards. NSP can also record a PC log while you're connected, which is handy on the dyno.
For AI analysis, the sample rate matters more than the duration. Log fuel and ignition channels at 20 Hz or faster for pulls and transients. A short, focused log of one pull or one cruise gets a sharper answer than a 30-minute drive.
Use the channel checklist to decide what to log.
Exporting NSP logs to CSV
AI agents read CSV best. Native log formats generally need the vendor's software to open. Menu labels move between versions, so here's the general pattern:
- Open the log in NSP's data log view.
- Use the log export option and choose CSV.
- Include all channels. The agent can only reason about what's in the file.
- Name it with context, e.g.
2026-11-02_elite2500_wot-3rd_E85.csv.
Can't find it? Let a computer-use agent find the export option for you. Finding things on screen is what it's good at.
Typical Haltech channel names
Put the exact names from your export into the channel dictionary in your skill file. These are what you'll usually see:
| What | Often appears as | Watch out for |
|---|---|---|
| RPM | Engine Speed | |
| Load | Manifold Pressure, Throttle Position | Absolute vs gauge pressure: check the units |
| Lambda | Wideband O2 1 / Lambda 1, plus the target channel | Lambda vs AFR display setting |
| Ignition | Ignition Angle | Base vs final angle, if both are logged |
| Knock | Knock Level, per sensor or cylinder | Per-cylinder channels if enabled |
| Trims | Closed-loop / short-term fuel trim | Analyse trims as well as lambda when closed loop is on |
Names vary by firmware and configuration. Always check them against your own export.
A starter prompt for Haltech logs
Attached is a NSP CSV export from my [Haltech Elite 2500] on a [engine / fuel / boost]. It's a [3rd-gear WOT pull, 2,500-7,000 rpm]. 1. Load it with code. Report rows, sample rate and channels; flag anything from my channel dictionary that's missing. 2. Sanity-check the sensors first (flat lines, pinned or impossible values). 3. Segment into idle / cruise / tip-in / full load / overrun. 4. Compare lambda to target in each segment; report regions > 3% off with time, RPM and load. 5. Check knock and ignition for timing pulled. 6. Rank findings HIGH / MED / INFO with evidence. Diagnosis only. Don't suggest changes until I agree.

Computer use in NSP
NSP's layout is consistent and its labels are readable, so computer-use agents find their way around it easily. Two Haltech-specific tips:
- Work on a saved map with no ECU connected for L2 (offline edit) sessions. Connect only when you're ready to make the changes yourself.
- Tell the agent to stop on any prompt about sending, writing or storing to the ECU. That's your checkpoint, not its.
Paste the guarded session starter at the start of every session, and set the autonomy level before the agent touches anything.
See the same channels live
The KrispyGauge reads the Haltech generic dash CAN stream (1 Mbit/s, 11-bit IDs) from Elite and Nexus ECUs, and it also supports Haltech WB1/WB2 wideband controllers and TCA thermocouple amplifiers. The channels your agent flags in a log (lambda, ignition angle, boost, temperatures) are the ones you can watch live on the dash.

Can Claude open Haltech NSP log files directly?
Not reliably. Export the log to CSV from NSP's data log view first, with all channels included. Claude can then load the CSV with code and analyse every row.
Can AI tune my Haltech for me?
It can analyse logs and propose changes, cell by cell, with evidence. You should review and apply each change yourself on a saved map copy, then log again. It is an analyst, not a replacement for a tuner.
Can computer use operate Haltech NSP?
Yes. Computer use works through the screen like a person, so it can navigate NSP, read tables and export logs. Keep it on an offline map copy and stop it before anything that sends changes to the ECU.
What should I log on a Haltech for AI analysis?
At minimum: engine speed, manifold pressure, throttle position, wideband lambda, lambda target, ignition angle and knock level. Add fuel trims, IAT, coolant temperature, injector duty and fuel pressure where you can.
